The head section of a web page is a container element. It can contain a variety of items, including but not limited to:

the page title
meta data
links to external resources (style sheets, scripts, etc.)
embedded styles
JavaScripts

The title tag is the only required element. Here's an example:

<html>
<head>
<title>Your Page Title</title>
</head>
<body>
Your web page content...
</body>
</html>
